ESI Group (now a Keysight Technologies business)

Who they are

ESI Group is a French virtual-prototyping pioneer, founded 1973, long listed on Euronext Paris. Keysight Technologies announced its acquisition in June 2023, took a 50.6% controlling block on 3 November 2023, completed the tender offer for the remainder in January 2024, and ESI was delisted from Euronext on 26 January 2024. It now operates as an ESI business unit inside Keysight's design-engineering-software arm. [Evidence] 123

What they DO have (the steelman)

ESI's automotive credentials are real and deep. Its Virtual Performance Solution (VPS) is an established crash/safety/strength/NVH suite used by vehicle manufacturers6; PAM-STAMP simulates automotive sheet-metal stamping; SYSWELD covers welding and assembly; ProCAST simulates metal casting (high-pressure die casting, sand, investment) — all manufacturing processes with obvious automotive relevance. Closest to this study's territory: PAM-COMPOSITES / PAM-RTM simulates liquid composite moulding — resin transfer moulding (RTM), vacuum infusion, compression-RTM — i.e. injecting thermoset resin into a fibre preform for composite structures. That is genuinely "moulding," and genuinely automotive (lightweight structural parts). [Evidence] 7

The test they fail: (b) moulded thermoplastic parts

ESI has no thermoplastic injection-moulding solver — nothing that simulates the fill / pack / cool / warp cycle of an injection-moulded plastic part, which is the core physics of this study. This was re-verified against the current (2026) Keysight CAE product catalogue: the Manufacturing Suite lists casting, composites forming, sheet-metal forming, stamping, welding and assembly — injection moulding of thermoplastics is absent. Its moulding-adjacent work is composites RTM (thermoset resin into preforms) and metal casting, which are different physics, different tooling and a different supplier base than the moulded interior/exterior/under-bonnet thermoplastic parts this study is about. On the AI test the picture is also thin: the ESI/Keysight pages describe "predictive physics modeling," "model-driven simulation with data-driven test" and real-time digital twins [Marketing] 8 — no named, dated AI product for any moulding-adjacent process was found in this research. So ESI arguably fails (c) as well; but (b) alone is decisive. [Evidence of absence]

What would change our mind

A Keysight/ESI product release adding thermoplastic injection-moulding simulation (organically or by acquisition), or a documented AI layer applied to PAM-COMPOSITES that automotive plastics engineers could actually reuse. Either would trigger re-evaluation; the former would likely earn a full report. [Inference]
