Continental → Aumovio + ContiTech¶
The dissolution (get the entities right). Continental has broken itself up: the automotive electronics business was spun off as Aumovio SE, first traded on the Frankfurt exchange September 18, 20251; the ContiTech industrial/plastics-and-rubber business was sold to Lone Star Funds (announced July 4, 2026, €4.0bn + up to €250m earn-out, closing subject to approval)2; Continental AG itself becomes a pure-play tire maker. Any "Continental" capability now needs an owner assigned. [Evidence]
Where the moulding sits. ContiTech's plastics competence — including the Kohren-Sahlis site with injection moulding, blow moulding and in-house mould-making, one of its specialist tech centres for thermal-management plastics (announced Nov 2020) — goes to Lone Star8. [Evidence] 3 Open question: how much injection moulding Aumovio (sensor/ECU/display housings) does in-house versus outsourced is not documented publicly; its site lists AI centres (Budapest, Romania, Singapore) but no plastics production (checked 2026-08-01). [Evidence of absence] 4
The best transferable datum in the Tier-1 suppliers group. Continental's AI-based requirements-engineering tool (with Microsoft Azure AI + NTT DATA7, PR of March 17, 2025): requirements analysis of hundreds-of-pages specification sheets, against a baseline of up to 37,500 working hours per development project, with analysis up to 80% faster. This is document-AI at the Intent layer, not moulding AI — but it is the one dated, quantified engineering-AI deployment by any company in this bundle, and it now lives with Aumovio's engineering organisation. [Evidence] 56
Steelman (the strongest case for them). The group has proven it will buy/build engineering AI when the ROI is legible (requirements). A PE-owned ContiTech under Lone Star is a plausible efficiency buyer: private-equity playbooks fund tooling that cuts engineering hours. [Inference]
What would change our mind: ContiTech-under-Lone-Star announcing an engineering-efficiency programme (upgrade to tracked buyer), or Aumovio confirming in-house moulding (upgrade to short-note customer in its own right). [Inference]
