Meaning A slight taper applied to vertical faces so the part can be removed easily from a mold.

Think of… A sandcastle bucket — a slight taper so the part slips out of the mould.

Etymology From the verb draw ("to pull out"). The draft angle helps draw the part from the mold.

DFM Meaning Essential for injection molding and casting.

Singular - Add a 2° draft on this wall.

Plural - Different drafts are required for textured and polished surfaces.

Industry Example - The side walls require at least 1.5° draft for reliable ejection.
