EDAG Group

Who they are. One of the world's largest independent automotive engineering partners (full-vehicle development, production plants), headquartered in Germany.

Steelman (the strongest case for them) — the strongest moulding claim in the ESP tier. EDAG publishes genuine technical depth on plastics: its Tech Insights article on thermal direct joining of plastic-metal hybrid components (by Michael Begert, Innovations Manager for Polymer Materials; research project completed December 2022) covers bonding metal inserts during the injection-moulding process, glass-fibre segregation effects, and FE modelling of the joints — real injection-moulding engineering, in public. [Evidence] 1 On AI, EDAG publishes dated positions: an Industrial Metaverse piece (23 Feb 2026) and "From shop floor to AI factory" (17 Mar 2026) on AI in production. [Evidence] 23

Why no full report. The two legs never meet. The plastics work is joining/lightweighting R&D (and its FE simulation), not a moulded-part design/mould-flow service line; the AI content is factory- and production-level, with no AI applied to plastic-part engineering. The hybrid article itself notes AI/generative algorithms assist the metal component development, not the moulding. The group's tooling business is production-plant/stamping-oriented rather than injection-mould making [Synthesis — from vetting; edag.com blocks automated re-verification, see the study's verification caveats (§3.2)]. So: passes (a) clearly, (b) partially (R&D, not service), fails (c) for moulding (the study's selection tests: (a) real automotive presence, (b) real moulded thermoplastic-parts capability, (c) concrete, dated AI capability). [Synthesis]

What would change our mind. An EDAG service offering or project reference combining its polymer competence with AI (e.g. ML-assisted mould-flow or moulded-part DFM for a client program). EDAG is the tier's most plausible candidate to build one. [Inference]
